With the Scientific Watch series, CCHFVACIM brings you timely updates on research, outbreaks, and global health developments related to Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever (CCHF) and other high-consequence viruses.
Our aim is to highlight scientific advances, surveillance findings, and policy-relevant insights that connect directly to the mission of CCHFVACIM: strengthening preparedness through better vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics.
This new series will feature regular posts showcasing how discoveries around the world echo and support the consortium’s goals to predict, prevent, and protect against epidemic threats.
🔬 Hidden Viral Threats Revealed in Uganda
A recent study using metagenomic sequencing in Uganda uncovered multiple viral pathogens—including CCHFV, Rift Valley fever, dengue, yellow fever, and Le Dantec virus—among patients with unexplained fevers.
⚠️ The detection of CCHFV reinforces the urgency of developing effective vaccines and antiviral strategies. Strengthening diagnostic capacity in Africa is essential to reduce the risk of undetected outbreaks.
This research echoes the goals of CCHFVACIM: building better tools to predict, prevent, and protect populations from epidemic threats.
